Acorn’s Farm started as a dream….

As a kid I always loved being around animals. Most kids wanted to hang out at the mall, but I wanted to spend my free days at the barn or wandering around a fair. I loved to read and would often day dream about having a farm of my own someday with enough land to get any animal I wanted. Fast forward 20 years and that childish dream has become reality! I found the perfect place to call home; land, barn, and flat fields all nestled in a country setting.

God must have known it was time for my farming journey to officially begin when he put a little pot belly piggy named Acorn in my path. It was just before Christmas 2019 and little Acorn was “homeless”. Needless to say he made his way under the Christmas tree and it has been one adventure after another ever since!

With Acorn supervising construction and the help/support of my family, the old barn was restored and we brought our first goats home. They brought playfulness and happiness back to the old barn and land that was missing before. I mean, it’s impossible to be in a bad mood when you’re around them!

As they grew, so did my love for them and it wasn’t long before I was hooked on these little goats. Even though 2020 was at a standstill, it didn’t stop Acorn and I from researching herds, combing through dairy lines, and checking show records to make future plans for our farm! A marathon road trip south in March 2021 brought home Rhea, Roxie, Kallie, and Betelgeuse from 3G Family Farm in North Carolina and Playboy from PrimRose Hill in Virginia. The new kids were joined shortly after by another pair of beautiful doelings, Tess and Ash, from Timberdoodle Farm. Fall 2021 we were blessed to added Hailey, Candy, and Gisela from PrimRose to round out the doe pen and bring in some great milking lines.

I didn’t know it at the time, but Acorn was the start of something that brings so much joy to myself and everyone who stops by to say hello. New friends are always welcome, so reach out, come by sometime to check out the animals, and see what your piece of heaven could look like too!!!
